Zellige: geometry held in clay and fire

Each star piece is cut by hand from glazed tile, then assembled into fields that seem infinite. Master craftsmen read patterns the way musicians read notation: by heart, with variation only where the architecture demands.

Regional history

Zellige flourished under Marinid patronage in Fès and Meknes, blending Andalusian precision with Amazigh motif. Today, restoration projects and private riads keep the trade alive.
